Professional Profile

For the past decade, I have worked as a perioperative nurse, and honestly, I thought that's where I'd stay. But somewhere between becoming the EHR superuser for our OR and teaching staff how to actually use the technology in front of them, I realized I was more excited about that side of the job than almost anything else.

Over the years I've done a little bit of everything — circulating in the OR, managing materials and vendor relationships, acting as Director of Nursing, and most recently, jumping into pediatric urgent care. Working with kids and families has been a whole new dimension of nursing that I didn't expect to love as much as I do. It's also reinforced how much documentation quality, workflow design, and medication safety affect patient care.

My perioperative background is where my informatics instincts really took shape. I led the go-live for HST Pathways and HST eChart, worked alongside leadership to maintain EHR integrity, and spent a lot of time digging into data, standardizing processes, and figuring out why things weren't working the way they should. That kind of problem-solving is what I'm drawn to.

I'm currently finishing my Master's in Nursing Informatics at Texas Tech, and my goal is to move into a full-time informatics role where I can do that kind of work every day. I'm especially passionate about medication safety and using data and technology to address drug diversion, which remains one of the most serious and underreported problems facing healthcare systems today. I want to help build the kinds of monitoring systems, reporting workflows, and clinical safeguards that make diversion harder to hide and easier to catch — protecting patients, protecting staff, and making healthcare safer for everyone.
